TAR / CREOSOTE REMOVAL FROM FLUE
OUR CREOSOTE MODIFIER IS SUITABLE FOR ALL NON - CATALYTIC WOOD BURNERS AND FIRES
SAFE ON METAL CHIMNEY SYSTEMS
There are 3 types of creosote:-
1st degree is a powder that indicates the fuel is burning well and should clean off without a problem.
2nd degree can manifest itself as a lumpy material which indicates that things are not right and procedures / operation of the stove / wood moisture content etc should be investigated before it turns to 3rd degree creosote.
3rd degree creosote is extremely hard as it builds up in layers, it cannot be cleaned off with usual equipment.
Our professional creosote modifier is a 4 component powder applied within the flue using compressed air.
An alkaline helps to neutralise the acidic creosote reducing corrosion to metal parts. Second, a material that has the ability to absorb some of the volatiles within the creosote. Third, a combustion inhibitor to reduce fire risk. Finally a catalyst helps break down the third degree creosote when the flue is heated.
The rate of creosote 'breakdown' will depend on several variables: Fuel used, burning habits, air flow, size of chimney flue and how much existing build up there is. It may require several applications and multiple heating and cleaning cycles to create a safer flue.
